1. This case came in after “Bea” had an abscess form in the toe quarter area of her foot. The abscess burst out through the coronet band, this created a weakness in the hoof wall which became a complete sandcrack.
All dirt and bacteria were removed from the crack to reduce the chance of reinfection, then a pair of handmade straightbar shoes were applied to give a full support and help the stability of the foot. A composite patch was also applied to aid in the stability of the foot and to reduce movement upon loading of the two sides of the crack.
